Specialist in audio and video capture devices, what could be more logical for Sony than to present a new smartphone, the Xperia Pro-I, which embeds everything that the Japanese brand knows how to do best in terms of multimedia, in particular its famous photosensor of 1 inch already proven in the RX100 VII camera.
And this is only a very small part of its very high-level technical sheet. Here are all the details.
After a Sony Xperia Pro smartphone exclusively available in the United States for $ 2,500, Sony offers the new Xperia Pro-I. This new device wants to mix some features of the Xperia 1 III with the Xperia Pro. It is a mobile phone designed for videographers and filmmakers who wish to have in their hands a device capable of capturing scenes with maximum quality while having the possibility of sharing the shots or videos. Achieved via mobile connectivity, which is not yet fully capable of real digital cameras.
Thoroughly in the photo
The Sony Xperia Pro-I is the very first smartphone to integrate a 1-inch photosensor. It is identical to the one offered in the Sony RX100 VIII digital camera optimized for smartphones with phase detection autofocus. It is coupled with Zeiss optics to avoid reflections and artefacts in the lens. Everything is associated with image processing via the Bionz X for a mobile chip. Thus, the Xperia Pro-I wants to bring professional quality to all of its users.
The mobile can record the shots in JPEG and 12-bit / RAW modern order to offer one of the widest dynamic ranges on the market. All three sensors have 12 megapixels. The main 1-inch module, therefore, benefits from an equivalence of 24 mm. The other two lenses are 16 and 50mm. According to Sony, the latest sensor, iToF 3D, instantly measures the distance between the camera and the subject to ensure fast and precise focusing.
The Xperia Pro-I is capable of filming in Ultra HD at 120 frames per second.
In terms of video, the mobile is the first of its kind capable of filming with Ultra HD definition at 120 frames per second. It embeds an Optical SteadyShot stabilizer with FlawlessEye and can follow objects to ensure focus in all circumstances. The new Videography Pro feature offers creative settings to play with white balance, focus and exposure even while recording a clip. In addition, the Cinematography Pro feature uses professional Sony video camera technologies to deliver cinematic rendering with eight colour settings inspired by the Japanese manufacturer’s Venice digital cinema camera.
A very high-quality screen to make the most of it
The new Sony Xperia Pro-I smartphone screen uses a 6.5-inch panel in 21: 9 AMOLED 4K HDR 10-bit format refreshes at 120 Hz supported by X1 For mobile technology to offer excellent contrasts and perfect colourimetry. Its definition is extreme: 1644×3840 pixels. The device supports Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio and 360 spatial sound audio formats and Hi-Res via LDAC and embeds DSEE Ultimate digital title optimization technology.
Technically, the Sony Xperia Pro-I is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage space expandable up to 1 TB with an SDXC memory card. It is powered by a battery with a capacity of 4500 mAh capable of supporting the load at 30 watts. According to Sony, 30 minutes of charging would allow you to enjoy a fill rate of 50%. Note the use of Sony technologies to preserve the battery as much as possible and guarantee a very high level of charge even after three years of use.
Wide connectivity for better sharing
The idea of Sony with the Xperia Pro-I is to allow professional photographers, videographers, and filmmakers to share easily and as quickly as possible the achievements made with the mobile. Thus, logically the phone can communicate in 5G and offers Wi-Fi 6 with automatic switching to the best network between the two. There is a 3.5mm audio jack port for connecting headphones. The mobile is, of course, Bluetooth and NFC for contactless payment and pairing with other compatible devices. The Sony Xperia Pro-I is IP68 certified. It measures 166x72x8.9 mm for a weight of 211 grams.
A very well thought out accessory that can be very useful.
To offer a set as coherent as possible to videographers and filmmakers, Sony has announced the marketing of a kit called Vlog Monitor. It is a set of accessories specially designed to be grafted to the Xperia Pro-I and allows video feedback of what is being filmed.
It is extremely convenient and very useful for people who are filming themselves. There is a 3.5 inch LCD screen (1280×720 pixels) and metal support for this. The set has a magnetic clip that Sony promises to be very easy to install. The module can be screwed onto the Sony GP-VPT2BT Bluetooth grip handle to even more easily control the start and end of the recording. There is a jack on the Vlog Monitor to plug in an external microphone if needed.
The new Sony Xperia Pro-I smartphone will be available in early December in France for a price of € 1,799. Count on a price of 199 € for the Vlog Monitor accessory from Sony.
